T3 Uptake Test

What is T3 Uptake?

• Purpose: The T3 Uptake test measures the amount of binding sites on thyroid-binding proteins that are available for the thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3).
• Indirect Measurement: It does not directly measure T3 levels but rather the availability of binding sites for T3.

Why is the T3 Uptake Test Done?

1. Thyroid Function: Helps assess thyroid function, especially in conjunction with other thyroid tests.
2. Diagnosis: Used to evaluate hyperthyroidism (excessive thyroid hormone production) or hypothyroidism (insufficient thyroid hormone production).
3. Medication Monitoring: Monitors response to thyroid medications and adjusts treatment as needed.

When Should You Get a T3 Uptake Test?

• Thyroid Symptoms: If you have symptoms such as fatigue, weight changes, sensitivity to cold or heat, or changes in heart rate.
